Right now—right this minute—while you’re wracking your brain trying to make sense of how it can possibly be that so many of our fellow Americans have jumped feet first into the garbage pit that is Trump world, somewhere someone with an appropriate sense of outrage and dread is clicking on to sign an online letter condemning Donald Trump for his frightening, destabilizing, racist, misogynistic, violent, opportunistic demagoguery.
Aiming for a total of two million signatures, AVAAZ—a five-year old, online activist network campaigning for human rights in fifteen languages across six continents—has issued a call for the world to send an unambiguous message rejecting the bigoted rhetoric and unworkable, simplistic policy prescriptions of America’s one and only totally-unfit-for-the job presidential candidate—Donald Trump.
As of the writing of this post, 1,927,766 (and counting) world citizens have signed the “World to Trump” letter. If you’re feeling as outraged as your fellow politically involved compatriots in countries like Belgium, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, England, Australia, and others, take a look at the content of this letter and then consider stepping up and adding your name to the ever-growing protest.
Dear Mr. Trump,
This is not what greatness looks like.
The world rejects your fear, hate mongering, and bigotry. We reject your support for torture, your calls for murdering civilians, and your general encouragement of violence. We reject your denigration of women, Muslims, Mexicans, and millions of others who don’t look like you, talk like you, or pray to the same God as you.
Facing your fear we choose compassion. Hearing your despair we choose hope. Seeing your ignorance we choose understanding.
As citizens of the world, we stand united against your brand of division.
