When I was young, my Dad used to give me a quarter to put in the church offering. When I was a teen, I gave 10% of my earnings. When I was in grad school, I felt I could not put in any money. I tried to give my time to make up for not having any money. When my husband and I both had jobs, we worked again at trying to put 10% of our earnings into support of our church. I felt the need at all these times to support the church, but had to find different ways to do it at different times in my life. It seems like taxation might work in a similar vein.
