This short-sightedness is not typical of long-term investors so I am not really sure what his game is here.

Missouri, and specifically Kansas City, have been making budget cuts for some time now and are likely to continue along this trend. You may not be aware of a lawsuit filed by KC residents earlier this year because budget cuts left their schools $3 million short. Or the $50 million budget cut that closed down nearly half of KC’s schools. In July, Missouri cut $300 million and more than 250 state jobs from the budget. Last year, KC slashed the police department budget by $15 million, despite warnings that crime would rise as a result. Maybe the loss of public services and jobs makes good fiscal sense to some, but is sure doesn’t to me. If you can afford to replace those services, I suspect you are better off than most. Congrats.

The cities can certainly find a way to cut spending every year. KC needs to stop with it’s TIF funded projects, which are ALSO funded by the e-tax. The Police department already has two other taxes including the e-tax which funds it and KC’s crime rate is skyrocketing. Give me back my 1%, I’ll pay for my own trash service, and the city can figure out how to manage this 1% phase out over 10 years. For all the doom and gloom you speak, give me a break!!

Gotta love his typical-old-rich-white-man answer to how public services will be funded – ‘let the other guys figure it out, we got 10 years!’ Douche.
