You could argue that Mitt Romney is an economic progressive, but on social issues, he’s certainly not a progressive. He strongly advocated for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.

It’s 2013 and even though the man who invented Obamacare, Mitt Romney, lost the election the Progressive Republicans are still alive, well, and the majority and they always have been. The only new, true, real progress has been libertarianism. Democrats and Republicans are war mongering freedom haters. For anyone who loves freedom, there is no place to escape.

I’d love a follow up piece about why and when this happened. I think they’ve become a party of fear, but what started it?

I am not optimistic about the GOP enlarging their tent any time soon, but on the other hand, maybe all it would take is one brave leader to speak up. Danforth is old news, and Snowe and Collins don’t seem to have the courage or interest.
When I was a young man in the ’70s, there were several moderate Republicans in the Senate– in fact the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast was full of them! Sadly, they are all gone now . . .
