The American people were never brought into the conversation in any meaningful way.
One other observation.  Once the bill was passed, the media stopped its weekly rant on the problems caused by the uninsured (medical bankruptcy ).  Instead once the bill passed we were treated to a daily/weekly rant on the evils of socialized medicine.
To me, the press is like the referee in a professional wrestling match.  They are apart of the show.  Always distracted  at the wrong time.
