foothold. They do a great job with what amounts to farm teams. They bring a lot
of their right-wing nut jobs up through the ranks in local government: city,
county, school boards, and the like. By grooming their people in the trenches,
they wind up controlling everything from school boards (which allows them to
determine what kinds of textbooks go into schools and to turn “evolution” into
a bad word) to state politics (which allows them to reject gay-marriage
initiatives). All because in contrast to the Democrats, they have done a good
job of recruiting, training, and nurturing strong new candidates.
