But, I do have to disagree with the headline that says he is the “last real progressive candidate.”  Some might say that Humphrey (although dragged down by the war and by comparison to McCarthy and RFK) and Mondale were pretty progressive, but the one post-Stevenson candidate who definitely was a true progressive was George McGovern. On the war, civil rights, environment, reproductive choice, and other important issues, McGovern was an unrepentant liberal!  Let’s not forget the Prairie Populist!
