Lethal force is exclusively (legally) used in self-defense by agents of the state, usually in the process of making an arrest or other similar legal non-lethal action. Drones, on the other hand, serve no purpose except the execution without trial of someone the government has deemed an enemy.

The fact remains that I would estimate that 90%, at least, of those on the left (such as myself) would have strongly supported this filibuster had it been made by Bernie Sanders against President Bush rather than Rand Paul against Obama. We must ensure that our critique remains uncorrupted by partisan politics, otherwise it will be viewed only as political point scoring akin to Republicans who suddenly cared about the deficit when Obama became president.
