It’s awesome to see somebody quoting from true feminism. And also juxtaposing between very great quotes and misogynistic, disgusting lyrics. A great song I recommend is “Bitch Bad” by Lupe Fiasco, talking about how as of late it’s the ‘norm’ to associate women with demeaning terms and it’s what we are taught to accept. I’m glad there are rare gems like THAT to listen to opposed to the disturbing somehow-popular “Blurred Lines”.
What I would really like to see is you write about how feminism has become a bunch of teenage girls on tumblr spewing “women are better/smarter than men, all men are rapists who cannot get raped, and everything should be blamed on the patriarchy and if anyone even dares call you ‘dear’ they should burn in hell” (yes, they actually claim rape doesn’t happen to men)
I’m an 18YO girl and a feminist, and because of beliefs like that, I cannot claim that I am one without being grouped with ‘feminazis’… it’s gotten so awful that this freaking word has a meaning beyond just being an offensive nickname made by butthurt men, I actually (shamefully) use it to describe ‘feminists’ who aren’t about human equality, but about drowning out all men. I think they miss the point of feminism being about equality, and just turn it into an excuse to hate men. Like, whatever, you have your right to hate men… just don’t call it feminism and make it blatant sexism.
I hope that other girls these days will realize that feminism is about EQUALITY. If we claim men should get less rights, we are no better than the men who oppressed us when we were the “lesser sex”
