But there were thousands of people working behind the scenes, and this article reaffirms this. Your list makes others come to mind, for instance, Bayard Rustin who was an activist who worked closely with Dr. King but has been overlooked by history because he was gay, or Medgar Evers, who died for the cause. There are thousands of these overlooked names, men and women who dedicated their lives, in fact, there are people working on the front lines today who don’t enjoy the media coverage of yore.
