I learned years ago that intelligence is no a requirement to become a Rhodes scholar. What they are really looking for are students that have the same left-leaning political attitude that they have. As it turns out nearly every Rhodes scholar I’ve heard of or met have been leftist-socialist o even communist. While Mr. Greitens may be an exception, just o be sure, I won’t vote for him.

And yes I did serve just a little bit, only 26 years in Naval Costal Warfare, and worked daily with all the different teams but tell us , how many nights did you spend on a hillside in Afghanistan? All I hear is I knew him and I knew someone who knew someone.

I have two friends who are general officers and served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. They are both progressive Democrats. Being conservative in a war zone keeps you alive? Well I can tell that you have NEVER served. Our mission in the Middle east is to help the people from the Taliban and Al-Qaeda–and now ISIL attacks. It’s called “Love thy neighbor.”
I have friends who are with Seal Team 2 (They are the only team that can work in the Arctic.) and was an MD with Seal Team 6. These guys fight and kill for a living. How does that make Eric Greitens a good choice for governor? He complains that the poor in Missouri are going hungry…uhh yeah! Thanks to the GOP cutting SNAP and unemployment benefits. He doesn’t have ONE specific program…oh he hates Obamacare, wants to privatize Social Security and he keeps quoting biblical scripture. The funniest thing is when he was caught yelling at the Marine who is also running and Eric called him a weasel, a creep, etc all while the Marine is laughing at him. Eric kept saying “Look me in the eye, look me in the eye!” The Marine said “I am!” Eric truly thinks he is god’s gift to the world and it will be interesting to see him debate anyone with an IQ above 95.
I read all of Eric’s books. He is INCREDIBLY impressed with himself. He wants to be governor…because he wants the prestige. He’s going to lose badly.

Government as the most important? No Mr. Lieber, teaching self-sufficiency, integrity, teamwork and the values that come from being a SEAL are the most valuable tools.
I’m not a SEAL, but I’ve been around enough of them to know that they generally make good leaders. Perhaps if your party had more leaders you would understand that change comes from empowering individuals to make the changes for themselves, not depending on government.

I agree with you BrnH2Orat. The author only seems to have one issue with Greitens…his party. Greitens is a self described former Dem. Both parties are severely flawed, but Greitens pointed to the hypocrisy of the Dem party as a major motivator of his departure. Another is the value that Greitens places on the power of people to accomplish great things with the government as a support system, not the other way around. This is the key difference between the parties, all the rest is government BS.

From everything that I just read you think he would be a great candidate if he would just run on the Democratic ticket? I find it hard to believe that anyone that did a few tours in Iraq or Afghanistan could ever consider themselves a liberal, being conservative in a war zone is a big part of what keeps you alive.
