Once upon a time not that long ago I used to think I was Interested in Islam. Reading online & trying to learn to pray.
So I came to a point where I was ready to take this into the real world. Went to a mosque to find classes for new Muslims. I was feeling good about this idea & to ending my self imposed online isolation. It felt good to be around people I thought might understand me.
OK here’s the important stuff
This class began innocent enough. Talk about the caliphate (some basic Islamic history)& turns to what are the rules if a Muslim should happen to kill another Muslim? ? Wow I was a little stunned! Talk about KILLING? Serious serious VIP deep stuff here to say the least!
Of course my hand was up I had questions that needed a answer.

Well u did a good job explaining the rules if a Muslim should kill another Muslim. What about non-muslims?
Oh that is a very important topic but we don’t have time to cover that today?
WHAT???? I was feeling a little horrified at this point!

Excuse me but the topic of killing is a very heavy topic. Do u know if anyone here is watching all quaida or Isis videos online?

Bottom line all I wanted to here at this point from anyone in this entire class of Muslims was were not OK with killing anyone.
Not even non-muslims.

No1 had anything to say. I felt like I was surrounded by evil.

Islam is not innocent! The Quran encourages hatred,lying & violence.

The reason the middle East is a pile of rocks is because of Islam.

This is what Islam is. Smiling to you but they,re taught to not be our friend.

The love… acceptance & friendship is a 1 way thing.

I’m sorry this happened to you, too. In OUR country, YOUR home. It’s not right. No one should live in fear of others’ hatred, ignorance, and cruelty. Your words are so strong, I felt I was there, experiencing it from your eyes. Thank you for sharing this story, it could not have been easy reliving it again and again. I hope your words will touch others too, that they will remember them in the voting booth.
