This is the preamble to that document, which clearly states the purpose of the Constitution: “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect
Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the
common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to
ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution
for the United States of America.”
People don’t like to talk about this much, but there’s this little 9th amendment written in the 1780’s that says people have rights NOT outlined in the Constitution and that, in fact, the Constitution is not to be used to deny rights obtained by The People. Even the designers of the document didn’t want it to be the Be All and End All. They knew time marches on and people change.
