Comments on: St. Louis is the Number 1 city for liberals? Probably not. https://occasionalplanet.org/2016/10/03/st-louis-number-1-city-liberals-probably-not/ Progressive Voices Speaking Out Wed, 22 Feb 2017 21:43:10 +0000 hourly 1 By: Stacy Mergenthal https://occasionalplanet.org/2016/10/03/st-louis-number-1-city-liberals-probably-not/#comment-7140 Wed, 05 Oct 2016 20:29:00 +0000 http://www.occasionalplanet.org/?p=34845#comment-7140 I don’t speak for everyone in the exurbs but I DO live in the exurbs and it’s pretty red around here. You nailed it. Conservatism is growing. Even many of my lifelong mostly-progressive friends are now conservative guns-and-religion people. It’s disturbing, quite frankly. But more importantly, indicative of a growing conservative movement in MO. Gerrymandering plays a part but I think the state’s Democratic party has enabled this through inaction and a bad attitude–they haven’t been here for progressives, they don’t support the progressive candidates of our choosing, they are absentee, they gave up on us. People want a political party that’s active and aggressively pursuing their interests. Unfortunately for us, right here and right now, that political party is the GOP. St. Louis is not a city for liberals and if the DNC doesn’t shape up, hold-out liberals may also abandon it for greener pastures.
