Few pursue and disclose the truth in politics, even if that is what we want most from them. I wonder why? It must be hard to be under constant public scrutiny, second-guessing every word, fearing someone may disclose something personal/private for the court of public opinion. On the other hand, that is what they sign up for with such an important job. Privacy is an unfortunate sacrifice of the public servant. At least they are more than adequately compensated for diligent, ethical, and competent work. (Production may vary.)
But back to seeking and sharing the truth. I hate to sound cynical but would voters even welcome the truth? It’s hard to tell sometimes. I thought it was pretty obvious from the start that Trump would be a disaster as president. But 60+ million people and the electoral college felt differently, even while gerrymandering helped Republicans retain the majority in Congress.
