It’s entirely too possible for them to live in the political and media bubble, where the only concerns they hear are those of lobbyists and/or what the media decides the public wants (they always want higher ratings, apparently). They’re not hearing from real people with real problems. Granted, they can’t talk to everyone at a big rally like that, but that level of attentiveness is impossible regardless of the setting. I could be wrong, but I think these rallies help people to feel that someone is listening to them. In the digital age, just showing up is a commitment.
