It’s true that if we can’t talk about gun control after a mass shooting, there will never be a time to talk about it because they are so frequent. We are constantly mourning a new tragedy due to gun violence. The same with global warming. If we can’t talk about it in the wake of a category 5 hurricane or F4 tornado or massive flooding or devastating wild fires and years-long droughts, we will never be able to talk about it. Most Republicans and Democrats want gun control. It’s the lawmakers with lobbyist handouts who refuse to act. Can we force them to? I don’t how. I *think* we’re (progressives) voting for the right people but often times we are backed into a corner, forced to choose between two candidates who are either very close ideologically or say all the right things during a campaign but do lobbyists’ bidding once in office. In some cases, people don’t even get that much of a “choice”, as you know from running against candidates who would have otherwise been unopposed by a Democrat in their districts. It seems to get harder and harder to hold politicians accountable, to force them to do their jobs and represent the best interests of the people.
