In reply to Stacy Mergenthal. He does represent them, but not in a good way. He represents the basest of human faults -- the xenophobia, the hate, the racism, the envy and scorn for those with more of something. The crap that comes out of his piehole is what his supporters don't dare say at work or in the community for fear of rightfully being ostracized or fired.

The more we react to trump’s insults the more power it gives him. His whole game is grievance. His supporters are aggrieved about everything. Prayer in school, kneeling, war on Christmas, taxes, LGBT culture that is foreign to them. They have built up a worldview where they think that American culture has been hijacked by the left and yearn for the good old days of picket fences, apple pie and parades. Trump tapped into the one of their favorite pastimes, pissing off libs. He can take away their healthcare, raise their taxes, cut their medicare/social security but as long as he generates some liberal tears they will vote Trump again and again.

I think in many ways he truly represents his voters. Many are distressingly ignorant about people and cultures other than their own, or at best are simply apathetic to their plights. I hear it almost every day. Maybe that’s why liberals are more sensitive about these things? To make up for the lack of it in other quarters? We definitely seem more empathetic to me.
