Of all the arguments opposing gun control, the one that annoys me the most is that \u201cguns don\u2019t kill people, people kill people.\u201d<\/p>\n

A recent letter to the editor in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch suggests that \u201cthe only rational conclusion you would reach is that if guns kill people then pens are the reason for misspelled words and forks and spoons are the reason Gov. Chris Christie and Rosie O\u2019Donnell are overweight.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 The writer says what we need is self control. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0What a vacuous, nonsensical argument.<\/p>\n

If Chris Christie and Rose O\u2019Donnell are unable to stick to a diet, we might read about their weight problems in the tabloids but no harm would be done to us.<\/p>\n

And misspelled words?\u00a0\u00a0 The only harm done is to the student\u2019s grade point average or our image of the speller.<\/p>\n

Being overweight and misspelling are self-inflicted wounds.\u00a0 A person not controlling a gun?\u00a0 We have seen the consequences and the wounds have been fatal.\u00a0\u00a0 We must stop the bleeding.<\/p>\n
