I recently took a look at Rep. Ann Wagner\u2019s website to see what she thought of President Trump\u2019s incendiary words at his rally Jan. 6, the words that prompted his supporters to attack the Capitol. She stated quite clearly that Trump should be held accountable for his role in the violence that took place. In fact she said, \u201cI support censuring the President for his rhetoric to ensure that his behavior is not deemed acceptable to future leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n
Was she perhaps talking about rhetoric like this? \u201cThe Democrats are trying to destroy the integrity of our elections \u2013- and if we don\u2019t stand up to them today, they\u2019re going to do even more damage.\u201d Or about such ludicrously false claims as the idea that \u201cradical leftists have corrupted this Presidential election\u201d and are coming for the rest of us next?<\/p>\n
Those\u00a0are irresponsible words alright. And who said them? Ann Wagner. In a letter\u00a0that arrived in my mailbox Jan. 14. Oh, I know.\u00a0It\u2019s a fundraising letter,\u00a0after all, and it may have been written a couple of days before the Capitol was\u00a0attacked and at least five people\u00a0died.<\/p>\n
But\u00a0words matter. And Ann Wagner\u2019s words have told us some truths about her. That\u2019s\u00a0why I support censuring our Congresswoman\u00a0for her rhetoric to ensure that her\u00a0behavior is not deemed acceptable to future leaders.<\/p>\n
